More than living in a special building

The Droste factory was built in 1890 on the edge of the Spaarne river in Haarlem. In Holland, when you say Droste, you say cocoa, you say chocolate.

In 2009, the monumental structure was converted to an apartment building with 40 apartments. The residents of these apartments are affiliated with the 'Friends of Droste' Foundation and would like to use this site to open the virtual doors of this special building. Unfortunately, we cannot imitate the smell of the famous chocolate, but take a walk through our neighborhood, be amazed and understand why we are proud to live here.

'Friends of Droste' Foundation focuses on four important pillars:

"Living in the Droste Factory is special. Together with the residents, we try to keep the unique history alive and we often realize what an important function this factory had for Haarlem"

Feel free to come and have a look

From Haarlem Central Station it's a 10-minute walk to the former Droste factory. Unfortunately, the smell of chocolate will no longer show you the way, but follow the footpath along the Kloppersingel and you will be there in no-time. Have a cup of coffee at Krachtstroom in the adjacent Lichtfabriek or at Figee Café in the BakkeRij. In summer you can have a drink or dine at city beach Oerkap next to the Prinsenbrug. Soon there will be more to see and experience in the area around the Lichtfabriek.
